Earl Brown was an influential figure in political and civic circles around DeLand in the 1930s, '40s and '50s.
His influence reached to Tallahassee and Washington.
Brown was best known as DeLand's former mayor and one of the founders of the Volusia County fair.
He managed Florida's exhibits in three world fairs.
The park has a one-mile walking/jogging trail, picnic pavilions, and a duck pond, plus a skate park, basketball courts, and kids playground.
