Texas Monthly's list comes out every five years, and Bartley's is a newcomer. (
visit link) You're ordering at the counter here, where they'll slice up your food and let you pick from quite a few sides. There is plenty of seating, and you can wash down your meal with soft drinks or iced tea. They can also pack up your food to go.
You can do plates. You can do sandwiches (including po boys). You can order food by the pound. Your selections are brisket (chopped or sliced), chicken, sausage, hot links, pork ribs, pork loin, ham, Cajun turkey, and bologna. They also have selections for children, as well as daily specials that include catfish. There are numerous sides, with the usual suspects like a variety of beans, slaw, and potato salad, along with greens, cabbage, and mac and cheese. Sauce is available, and while QDV is particular about sauce's NOT being on brisket, those who like heat should try their spicy sauce. It complements the ribs well, and is a great dipping sauce for other things.
As meat is available by the pound, you can order as much as you like in order to "pig out," but here, there is an all-you-can-eat option for $19.99 if you don't want to tackle one of the big family packs. If you're going on the cheap, $5.99 will get you a sandwich and a glass of water. For dessert, they have cobbler and other treats from the bakery they operate right next door.
