Dr. Bob Palmer is an art professor at the University of Central Oklahoma. He and his mural students go all over Oklahoma, the U.S., and Europe painting murals. Finding one of his students' masterpieces is always a joy. Dozens of them can be found around Oklahoma, especially in small, out of the way towns when you least expect them.
This mural is painted on a brick wall covered with stucco. It reads "Welcome to Watonga - Est. 1892".
The mural is painted within the shape of the State and includes various National Register properties in the town: the Armory, Noble Hotel, Ferguson Chapel, the Courthouse and the Ferguson house. Also depicted are farming scenes, a hawk and an Indian headdress, all an integral part of the history of Watonga. The mural is painted on the south wall of the two-story building at 112 N. Noble, in the downtown area.
