In some countries this steep roofline is necessary but not in coastal Australia. The 45º buttressing walls, and the unusual materials and way they are used make this an unusual shaped building. No eaves over the sections of vertical timber cladding.

With 45º buttressing walls, in line with the roofline that seems to go right to the ground, it would not look so unusual except for the offset of the two sides of the north/south roof with large vertical skylights.
The skylights look like they would certainly let in lots of early morning sun (reducing lighting costs), but the large open roof space would also suck up any heat generated to keep the house warm.
As a child I would have loved to be challenged by climbing the northern brick wall which has randomly placed jutting bricks.
While there are houses in Australia that use shingles as a roofing material this is the only one I have seen with contiguous corrugated iron sheeting.
