Located at 408-1/2 W. Chickasaw south of the Love County Courthouse, this two-story concrete block residence-looking building, constructed in 1910, operated as Love County's primary correctional facility for seventy years. Prisoners were housed on the second floor with the sheriff and his family living on the first floor. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. Today, the building houses the Love Conty Military Museum.
The museum is open Thursday-Saturday from 9:00-2:00 and by appointment. (580-276-3192)
The museum was dedicated 6/1/1996. It honors military men and women from Love County who lost their lives in fighting for this country. 700+ photos, antifacts and war memorabilia from Civil War through Iraq document the life and accomplishments of the veterans from this area.
