When the former city hall building was demolished part of the the east wall was preserved and incorporated into a fountain. The 50' long fountain has a raised rectangular basin which contains five jets that shoot water straight up, 6' into the air. Water then flows down in front of the wall into a catch basin a ground level. The courtyard was restored by Didona Associates Landscape Architects in 2004.
A plaque attached to the back wall of the fountain explains the history. It contains an image of the former City Hall and the inscription:
Between 1886 and 1790 the Danbury City Hall
was situated on the site
of the present library courtyard.
This wall, part of the original structure,
stands as an enduring symbol
preserving our City's
historic heritage.
