For a small town, Lufkin, TX has a great zoo! It has big cats, big snakes, big tortoises, and big fan-tailed peacocks strutting around. The variety of animals is amazing considering the size footprint the animal area of the zoo is. Of course, I was sold on the quality of the zoo when I saw a penny smasher machine ... a stainless steel penny smasher machine ... in the entrance, beside the ticket window! I carry quarters and pennies in my backpack just for these occasions when I spot a penny smasher where I was not expecting one.
This unit has four animal selections: lion, giraffe, hippopotamus, and rhinoceros. For $0.51 made of two quarters and one penny put into the designated coin slots, a few turns of the handle will produce a durable souvenir of your visit. If you show up with only dollar bills, the friendly folks in the Gift Shop to the left of the penny smasher will make change for you if you tell them it is for the smasher.
Kids or grandkids will love watching the wheels turn. They will love it more if they get to turn the wheels themselves.
