There is a plaque on the cairn with the following inscription in Norwegian: "Sorgen forgik mig på Ulrikkens top". [English translation: The sorrow left me on the top of Ulriken.] This text is an excerpt of a song titled "Udsikter fra Ulriken" which is also known as "Jeg tok min nystemte." Above the plaque is a bronze harp. Another plaque on the cairn reads: "Biskop Johan Nordahl Brun 1745-1816". He is the individual who wrote the lyrics to the song quoted on the cairn. Above this plaque is a bronze cameo of Brun.
"Johan Nordahl Brun (21 March 1745—26 July 1816) was the poet, dramatist, Bishop in Bergen (1804-1816), and politician who contributed significantly to the growth of National Romanticism in Norway, contributing to the growing national consciousness.
Literary works
In literary history, he found his place when he wrote the first Norwegian play, "Einer Tambeskielver" (1772). This play aroused a strong awakening of Norwegian spirit and was produced many times. He also wrote many poems, including Norway's first (unofficial) national song, "For Norge, Kiempers Fødeland" and published a book of Evangelical Hymns (1786). He was also the writer of the city of Bergen's anthem "Jeg Tok Min Nystemte"."
