This chapel is along the ancient pilgrimage route from Le Puy way to Santiago de Compostella. The chapel is patterned after the Abbey of St Foy at Conque with similar carvings and decorations. It served as the parish church for Espalion until the 16th century and the graveyard chapel since then. It was listed as a national historic monument in 1862.
