Logan Fontenelle was born in Bellevue in 1825. His father was a noted fur trader on the lower Missouri and near Fort Laramie, WY. His mother was daughter of Big Elk, important Chief of the Omaha.
Logan was educated in a private school in St. Louis, before joining the family at Fort Laramie in 1837.
He was killed while on a buffalo hunt in 1855 when his party was attacked by Sioux. He is buried in Bellevue.
