Logan Fontenelle, Chief of the Omaha Tribe, was from Bellevue, and signed the 1854 Treaty, in Washington, D.C. in 1854.

Logan Fontenelle was born in Bellevue in 1825. His father was a noted fur trader on the lower Missouri and near Fort Laramie, WY. His mother was daughter of Big Elk, important Chief of the Omaha. Logan was educated in a private school in St. Louis, before joining the family at Fort Laramie in 1837. He was killed while on a buffalo hunt in 1855 when his party was attacked by Sioux. He is buried in Bellevue.
