The city of Edmond has approximately 200 pieces of public art throughout town. Everywhere you look, there's one to spot and enjoy.
This is the latest to be placed. Tuntawu Offering is an abstract by Greg Reiche which stands on the brick median on North Broadway, south of Covell.
The piece is 52 x 39 x 12 inches and consists of two red rough-cut sandstone slabs. The slabs are narrower at the bottom and angle out to the top. Between them, framed by steel bars is etched glass, in a cross-hatch design. At the top, a stone square has a piece of etched circular glass. Across the top is a concave arched bar of steel.
The Cherokee story tells us about Tuntawu: "A small yellowish moth which flies about the fire at night is called "tun tawu", a name implying that it goes into and out of the fire, and when at last it flits too near and falls into the blaze the Cherokee say ‘tun tawu is going to bed".
