EN: Baden was the most important official meeting place of the Federal Diet of the old Confederation, but the only state who owned private accommodation quarters for its emissaries was Bern. This was first at Cordulaplatz and from 1665 at the Weite Gasse. For space reasons, it was dismantled in 1676 and rebuilt until 1678 as new Baroque house by Abraham Dünz. In 1719 a neighboring house was bought and in 1734 replaced by a new building connected to the main building. In 1804 it became the property of the newly founded Canton of Aargau, who sold it in 1805 to private owners.
The house is considered the most important Baroque secular building of Baden. Its most striking feature is the ornate arch pediment, called Ründe, which originates from traditional Bernese farmhouse and otherwise does not occur in the eastern Aargau.
DE: Baden war der wichtigste Tagsatzungsort der alten Eidgenossenschaft, doch als einziger Stand besass Bern ein eigenes Absteigequartier für seine Abgesandten. Dieses befand sich erst am Cordulaplatz und ab 1665 an der Weiten Gasse. Aus Platzgründen wurde es 1676 abgebrochen und bis 1678 als Barockhaus von Abraham Dünz neu gebaut. 1719 wurde ein Nebenhaus dazugekauft und 1734 durch einen mit dem Hauptgebäude verbundenen Neubau ersetzt. 1804 ging die Liegenschaft an den neu gegründeten Kanton Aargau, der es 1805 an Private verkaufte.
Das Bernerhaus gilt als das bedeutendste barocke Profangebäude von Baden. Sein auffälligstes Merkmal ist der verzierte Bogengiebel, die sogenannte Ründe, die ursprünglich vom traditionellen Berner Bauernhaus stammt und im östlichen Aargau sonst nicht vorkommt.
