Dernau liegt im Ahrtal am Rand des Ahrgebirges auf ca. 125 m ü. NN, etwa 30 km südlich von Bonn und 50 km nördlich von Koblenz. Die höchste Erhebung innerhalb der Gemeinde ist mit 360 m ü. NN der Krausberg.
Der Turm steht auf einem kleinen Grundstück ca. 40 Meter vom Weinberg entfernt und ist in sehr gepfegtem Zustand.
