EN: The Habsburg is located on a hill overlooking the Aare southeast of Brugg.

The site consists of two parts, the "Front Castle" in the east is the older part, it dates back to the 11th century, only the foundations are preserved. The "Rear Castle" in the west opposite the bailey is an extension from the years 1100 to 1250. It has been largely preserved and now serves as a restaurant and a museum.

The Habsburg was built around the year 1020 by Count Radbot, who had previously resided in the Altenburg near Brugg. From 1100, the family called themselves "von Habsburg". The Habsburgs rose rapidly to become a major ruling family, the old residence no longer met the requirements for their new position. From about 1220 they left the castle and moved their center of power later to the area of Vienna.

The Habsburg was given to leuds, until the area was conquered in 1415 by Bern. After several changes of ownership, the castle came into the possession of the monastery of Königsfelden in 1469 and after the abolition of the monastery during the Reformation in 1529 to the city of Bern. Since 1804, the Habsburg is owned by the canton of Aargau.

In 1979 Restaurant was opened in Palas, this is connected to an outpost of the Museum Aargau.

Die Anlage besteht aus zwei Teilen, die "Vordere Burg" im Osten ist der ältere Teil und stammt aus dem 11. Jahrhundert, von ihm sind nur noch die Fundamente erhalten. Die "Hintere Burg" im Westen gegenüber des Burghofs ist eine Erweiterung aus den Jahren 1100 bis 1250. Sie ist weit gehend erhalten und dient heute als Restaurant und Museum.

Die Habsburg wurde um das Jahr 1020 von Graf Radbot erbaut, der zuvor in der Altenburg nahe Brugg residiert hatte. Ab 1100 nannte die Familie sich von Habsburg. Die Habsburger stiegen schnell zu einer bedeutenden Herrscherfamilie auf, der alte Stammsitz genügte den Anforderungen an die neue Stellung nicht mehr. Ab etwa 1220 verliessen sie die Burg und verlegten ihr Herrschaftszentrum später in die Gegend von Wien.

Die Habsburg wurde an Gefolgsleute verliehen, bis die Gegend 1415 von Bern erobert wurde. Nach mehreren Besitzerwechseln kam die Burg 1469 in den Besitz des Klosters Königsfelden und nach der Aufhebung des Kloster in der Reformation 1529 an die Stadt Bern. Seit 1804 ist die Habsburg im Besitz des Kantons Aargau.

1979 wurde im Palas ein Restaurant eröffnet, diesem ist ein Aussenposten des Museums Aargau angeschlossen.
