The Simplon Hospiz is a large mountain hostel on the summit of Simplon pass. It was started by Napolen in 1801 and finished in 1831 by the Congregation of Canons Regular at Grand-Saint-Bernard.

EN: The old Simplon Hospice stands at the Simplon pass at 1997 meters above sea level. The massive three-storey building with a large gable roof has a floor plan of 20 to 65 meters.
The building was in 1801 commanded by Napoleon, who let widen the pass road so that it was usable for wagons and military transports. The hospice at the pass should also serve as a barracks. Construction was begun in 1813 and discontinued after the fall of Napoleon. In 1825 it was taken over by the Augustinian Canons Regular at Grand-Saint-Bernard, it was finished by architect Henri Perregaux until 1831.
The hospice is still run by the canons. It is open all year round and can accommodate up to 130 guests.
DE: Das alte Simplon Hospiz steht an der Simplon-Passhöhe auf 1997 Metern über Meer. Das massive dreistöckige Gebäude mit einem grossen Satteldach hat einen Grundriss von 20 auf 65 Metern.
Der Bau wurde 1801 von Napoleon angeordnet, der die Passstrasse erweitern liess, so dass sie auch für Fuhrwerke und Militärtransporte benutzbar wurde. Das Hospiz auf der Passhöhe sollte auch als Kaserne dienen. Die Bauarbeiten wurden erst 1813 begonnen und nach dem Sturz Napoleons eingestellt. 1825 übernahmen die Augustiner-Chorherren des Hospizes auf dem Grossen St. Bernhard das Gebäude und liessen es bis 1831 vom Architekten Henri Perregaux fertig stellen.
Das Hospiz wird auch heute noch von den Chorherren geführt. Es steht das ganze Jahr offen und kann bis zu 130 Gästen aufnehmen.
