The city of Revelstoke awards Heritage Awards each year in six categories to the owners of heritage properties for their achievements in heritage conservation in the city. In 2009, the award for
Commercial Renovations was earned by this commercial property at 111 Mackenzie Avenue, owned by
Selkirk Mountain Experience.
The building was constructed in the early twentieth or late nineteenth century as the Canadian Pacific Telegraph Office, remaining so until the 1920s. The exterior renovation is very well done, with the stone corner quoins highlighted in a contrasting colour and the overhanging dentilled cornice renewed. The dentils were created with carved heavy wooden brackets.
This commercial property is Number 11 on the MacKenzie Walk section of the
Revelstoke Heritage Walking Tour
