The Fisher substation was originally part of the Nepean Township Hydro grid. when built in the 1960's, it was the only substation for this isolated area of Ottawa.
When Nepean gained city status in 1975 it fell under the auspices of Nepean Hydro, and eventually Hydro Ottawa upon regional amalgamation in 2001.
Today the substation is fully enveloped by the burgeoning community.
