EN: The "Lower Factory" stands on the banks of Ergolz river in the north of Sissach. The three-storey factory building was built in 1859-60 as a silk ribbon weaving for the company Fiechter & Sons. Although no construction documents exist, it is believed that the architect was Johann Jakob Stehlin, who built a number of similar buildings in the area in this period.
The Lower Factory is one of the last examples of industrial architecture from the mid-19th century and one of the oldest witnesses to the advent of industrialization in the previously rural areas in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, which emerged after the construction of the railway line.
The silk ribbon factory closed in 1930. During the Second World War the building was used as a barracks. After that it was a machine factory. Since 1994, the main building is used for cultural events.
DE: Die "Untere Fabrik" steht im Norden von Sissach am Ufer der Ergolz. Das dreistöckige Fabrikgebäude wurde 1859/60 als Seidenbandweberei für die Firma Fiechter & Söhne erbaut. Obwohl keine Bauunterlagen mehr existieren, wird angenommen, dass der Architekt Johann Jakob Stehlin war, der in dieser Zeit mehrere ähnliche Bauten in der Gegend errichtet hat.
Die Untere Fabrik ist eines der letzten Beispiele für die Industriearchitektur aus der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts und einer der ältesten Zeugen der beginnenden Industrialisierung in den zuvor ländlich geprägten Gebieten im Kanton Baselland, die nach dem Bau der Eisenbahnlinie aufkam.
Die Seidenbandfabrik wurde 1930 geschlossen. Während des zweiten Weltkriegs wurde das Gebäude als Kaserne genutzt. Danach war es eine Maschinenfabrik. Seit 1994 wird das Hauptgebäude für kulturelle Anlässe benutzt.
