On Minnesota Street, between 10th and 11th stands The West School. The school currently houses the Washita Valley Community Action Head Start school.p>
Above the main entrance which faces South is a masonry shield with the date 1903. The cornerstone located at the northeast corner of the building shows construction was begun in 1902.
The school is one-story brick, with a narrow masonry belt course just below the roof line. The east and west entrances have double doors within a projected brick portico with an arched opening. The main entrance on the south also has a projected brick entrance which has a stone panel above the opening reading "The West School", and a masonry shield dated 1903 at the roof line. The ribbon windows all around are set in groups of three. Each window is tri-paned, with the bottom pane single hung. Lintels are brick; sills are stone. Double sets of stairs with iron handrails lead to each of the entrances.
The two-sided cornerstone at the northeast corner reads "1902" on one side, and lists school officials names on the north side:
Directors
J.A. Rose, Pres.
P.B. Monical, Sect.
D.E. Amerson,
R.B. Biggers,
E.M. Payne,
