Die Meilerhütte wurde am 11. September 1898 als Schutzhütte des Alpenvereins Sektion Bayerland festliche eingeweiht. Seit 1909/11 wird die Hütte nach einem Neubau auch bewirtschaftet. Seit 1970 gehört die Hütte zur DAV-Sektion Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Heute bietet die Meilerhütte Bergsteigern und Bergwanderern 11 Schlafplätze im Zimmerlager und 70 Schlafplätze im Matratzenlager. Die Hütte ist lediglich zu Fuß erreichbar! Geöffnet hat die Meilerhütte von Mitte Juni bis Anfang Oktober. Die Gastwirtschaft in der Hütte bietet ein traditionelles (und leckeres!) Abendbrot und für Berghütten üblich einfaches aber gutes Frühstück.

Aufstiegsmöglichkeiten zur Meilerhütte:
* Von Elmau über die Wettersteinalm und Schachenhäuser in ca. 5 Stunden oder den versicherten Steig durch die Hirschbichlschlucht und das Angerlloch in 4 bis 4,5 Stunden
* Vom Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Skistadion) über die Partnachklamm, den „Kälbersteig“ und die Schachenhäuser in 5,5 Stunden
* Von Leutasch durch das Bergleintal in 4,5 Stunden oder über den Söllerpass mit Kletterein im Schwierigkeitsgrad I in 4,5 Stunden

The Meilerhütte was inaugurated as a alpine hut of the DAV section Bayerland on 11. September 1898. Since 1909/11 the hut is managed after a reconstruction. Since 1970 the Hut belongs to the DAV section of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Today the Meilerhütte offers mountaineers and hikers 11 beds in rooms and 70 beds in dormitories. The hut can be reached only on foot! The Meilerhütte opens from mid June to early October. The restaurant in the hut offers a traditional (and delicious!) Dinner and for alpine huts usual simple but good breakfast.
