The Shakkin` Brig (shaking bridge) is a pedestrian suspension bridge that crosses the North Esk near the village of Edzell. It can be reached off the Main Street eastwards down a narrow lane called Gassie Brae. The bridge was constructed around 1900. It is mainly constructed of wood with steel wires holding it in place. It gets its name from the obvious shaking sensation felt when the pedestrian crosses it. The bridge straddles two counties, Angus on the west bank, Aberdeenshire on the east. It has survived much damage in the past, mainly from floods. The most recent saw the river overlap the bridge during Storm Frank.
