Marker Text:
On the occasion of the Centennial of the Rural Municipality of Rosser, this cairn is raised to honour the pioneers who settled this land. Loyalty, respect for tradition, preservation of the area's agricultural nature as well as the nourishment of growth have become the strengths of those who followed in their footsteps. The Municipality bears the name of Rosser. Thomas Lafayette Rosser entered the US Army Academy, West Point, as a classmate of George Armstrong Custer. After fighting on opposite sides during the American Civil War, they were reunited in 1873. Rosser was an engineer surveying the Northern Pacific Railway. Custer commanded US Army regiments assigned to safeguard its construction. When Custer was killed at Little Big Horn, Rosser was attempting to organize a volunteer force to ride to his rescue. General Rosser became chief engineer of the CPR in 1881. It was during this period that his name was given to the hamlet and at formation, his name was also adopted by the Rural Municipality. Other hamlets situated within the boundaries of Rosser Municipality are Gordon, Grosse Isle, Marquette and Meadows.
