EN: The "Old Hispital" is a historic building on the western edge of the old town of Visp. It is located near the river in the valley between the two historic churches.

The elongated three-storey building has a slated hipped roof. The entrances at the north side are still protected in a medieval style by a brattice with two loopholes.

In the Middle Ages, there was a small commercial area with saw, mill and bakery at this location. The place was purchased in 1584 by Governor Johann In-Albon, where he let build the house in 1584 and expand in 1601. The building served as a residence until the 18th century. The last private resident died in 1721. In 1751, the house was handed over to a charitable foundation and converted into a hospital for poor pilgrims and travelers. This hospital remained open until 1965. From 1970 it was for a few years a boarding school for disabled people. Today the "Old Hispital" is a youth center, and houses club meeting locations and offices of aid organizations.

DE: Das alte Spittel ist ein historisches Gebäude am westlichen Rand der Altstadt von Visp. Es befindet sich in Flussnähe in der Senke zwischen den beiden historischen Kirchen.

Das längliche dreistöckige Gebäude hat ein schiefergedecktes Walmdach. Die Eingänge and der Nordseite sind noch ganz mittelalterlich durch einen Pechnasenerker mit zwei Schiessscharten gesichert.

Im Mittelalter war an dieser Stelle ein kleines Gewerbegebiet mit Säge, Mühle und Backstube. Der Platz wurde 1584 von Landeshauptmann Johann In-Albon erworben, wo er 1584 das Haus bauen und 1601 erweitern liess. Das Gebäude diente bis ins 18. Jahrhundert als Wohnhaus. Der letzte private Bewohner starb 1721. 1751 wurde das Haus einer gemeinnützigen Stiftung übergeben und als Spital für arme Durchreisende und Pilger umgebaut. Dieses Spital blieb bis 1965 geöffnet. Ab 1970 befand sich darin für einige Jahre ein Internat für behinderte Personen. Heute ist im alten Spittel ein Jugendhaus, sowie Klublokale und Büros von Hilfsorganisationen.
