The mansion was built in the form of a 2 story Greek temple with 6 Ionic columns on the front façade. It was built in the style of Minard Lafever, who wrote The Modern Builder's Guide and The Beauties of Modern Architecture, which were influential design books in the 1830's.
From a personal perspective, Rose Hill seems to be out of place where it is located. Located on a 4 line divided highway, it seems to be an ordinary huge house with a driveway right of RT 96a. It does have a great view of Finger Lake, and it is my guess when built owned all the land down to the lake shore line.
