There is no cemetery sign at this sadly neglected cemetery. It can be identified by topographic maps and FindAGrave (link below). Essentially, the cemetery as a whole is currently not maintained (as marked in the status). However, it is not
yet ready to be cross-posted as an Abandoned Cemetery because -- now this is really odd -- some of the families come out and mow
just the grave markers for their family! The FindAGrave description of the cemetery is rather scathing about the status of this cemetery. Apparently its primary link was with a specific funeral parlor that (excuse me)
died, uh,
went belly up, uh, discontinued.
Although there were 6 graves missing dates in FindAGrave, the oldest burial is from 1960. At the time of this waymark posting, the latest burial was from 2014, but unless things change, it is now inactive. (Assuming that folks don't want to bury their kin in a cemetery that is no longer maintained. Though that may be an arguable point, since the last burial is from 7 years after FAG says that it was abandoned.)
There is a chain at the double gate, but it is just for looks. The lock only holds the chain in a loop, but the chain can be unfastened very simply (no tools or funny business) from both gates. However, erosion had made a deep gash right at the gate when we visited this cemetery, so we chose to park outside, next to the deep gully, and walk in. It's a short and astounding walk. Tall grass and weeds surround most graves, but there are some -- just a few -- that are mowed around. If this ever changes, please let me know and I'll be happy to change the status of this curious cemetery.
