Hidden behind the houses of Trier's main market is the Market and Citizen Church of St. Gangolf. Once the entrance has been found, the church is directly attached to the market houses. Construction for the church, as it is to be seen today, was at the beginning of the 15th century. Four tower storeys were already built a century earlier.
The two top towering structures were donated by the Mayoressess Adelaide von Besselich. The tower of the market church thus surpassed with its now 62 m height the towers of the cathedral, which was afterwards only a few years later. Inside the church, the late-Gothic color and the stone retable of the former Michael altar are particularly noticeable.
