The Canadian Pacific Railway constructed this concrete box culvert on the Carleton Place subdivision in 1911. The railbed itself dates back to 1870. In 1967, the final train crossed this culvert.
Today, the culvert lies under a busy bike path. Designed to hold the weight of steam engines in 1911, the culvert could survive another century.
Back in the day, the culvert would be described as being located at milepost 5.4 on the Carleton Place sub, 5.4 miles from Ottawa.
Year built or dedicated as indicated on the structure or plaque: 1911
