A 55 foot tall tower dedicated to the local men who fell in the Great War of 1914-18. It is situated on the summit of Balmashanner Hill (locally Bummie), about a mile south of Forfar in Angus. The monument was designed by Thomas R Soutar and is a high castellated tower in local sandstone. It was dedicated on September 11th 1921 by the Earl of Strathmore and the inscription on its front face reads "Their name liveth for evermore. Erected in memory of the men of Forfar and District who fell in the Great War 1914-18. The tower can be reached by a number of paths which head up the hill, but the door is always locked apart from the occasional open day. The monument is lit at night.
