In preparation for the Winter Olympics of 2010 the Canada Line opened in August 2009. Lansdowne Station is the closest station to the Olympic Oval where many events were held.

On August 17, 2009 Lansdowne Station opened along with all the other stations on the Canada Line. This station played an important role in the 2010 Winter Olympics, which the Canada Line was built for, by being a 15 minute walk to the Olympic Oval - WM9CQN.

Two years after opening the average daily passenger count for Lansdowne Station was 8,412.
