Main Street–Science World Station is on the site of one of the oldest SkyTrain stations in Metro Vancouver. In 1983 the public had a chance to ride over a two-month a one-kilometre long demonstation track.

The current station opened on December 11, 1985 as a part of the original SkyTrain line in Metro Vancouver. However, two years earlier this Main Street–Science World Station was the eastern terminus of the demonstration track that was opened to the public. This station has recently undergone major improvements and a reconstruction. As of 2011, it served 25,657 passengers on an average day.
