EN: The former Grand Hôtel des Salines is located on the banks of the Rhine east of the old town of Rheinfelden. It was opened in 1882 and was a spa hotel of the luxury class in the early 20th century, particularly popular with guests from France and Russia. The hotel was often expanded and rebuilt, the different tracts never formed a unit. The listed and protected west tract was built in Neo-gothic style in 1895-96 by the well-known architects Robert Curjel and Karl Moser. Its exterior has remained largely unchanged until today. The three-storey building has a mansard roof, two towers with onion domes and a loggia on the south side.

Due to the absence of guests during the Second World War, the hotel got economic problems, of which it did not recover. It was closed in 1963 and stayed empty for years. In 1978, a hotel was opened in the east tract, since 2008 there is a senior citizen residency in the middle section. The west tract was renovated in 2012 and has since then housed a private clinic for aesthetic surgery and dentistry.

DE: Das ehemalige Grand Hôtel des Salines steht am Rheinufer östlich der Altstadt von Rheinfelden. Es wurde 1882 eröffnet und war im frühen 20. Jahrhundert ein Kurhotel der Luxusklasse, das besonders bei Gästen aus Frankreich und Russland beliebt war. Das Hotel wurde öfters erweitert und umgebaut, wobei die verschiedenen Trakte nie eine Einheit gebildet hatten. Der denkmalgeschützte Westtrakt wurde 1895-96 von den bekannten Architekten Robert Curjel und Karl Moser im Neugotischen Stil erbaut. Das Äussere hat sich bis heute weit gehend unverändert erhalten. Das dreistöckige Gebäude besitzt ein Mansarddach, zwei Türme mit Zwiebelhauben und eine Loggia an der Südseite.

Durch das Ausbleiben von Gästen während des Zweiten Weltkriegs bekam das Hotel wirtschaftliche Probleme, von denen es sich nicht mehr erholte. 1963 wurde es geschlossen und stand jahrelang leer. 1978 wurde im Osttrakt wieder ein Hotel eröffnet, seit 2008 befindet sich im Mittelteil eine Seniorenresidenz. Der Westtrakt wurde 2012 renoviert und beherbergt seither eine Privatklinik für ästhetische Chirurgie und Zahnmedizin.
