The church stands to the northeast of the town, with a few houses and nothing else around it. If nothing else it has a great view of the mountains across the valley, still snow capped when we visited in mid April. Very new, this large multicolored brick church is likely the newest church in Deer Lodge. Given the name "First Baptist" it's likely that this is a replacement for an earlier building within the town. Quite large, the building appears to have a church hall attached, and probably offices, as well.
In front of the church, at the entrance off Sam Beck Road, is a large wooden cross as well as the church's sign. The cross stands at least twelve feet in height and is surrounded by a low fence of wood posts and rails. The sign is made of a good sized flat rock with the name carved into it. Also carved in the stone is the likeness of a cowboy who stopped on his way by and dismounted from his horse to pray at the cross.
