EN: The church of St. Niklaus of Dittingen is located in a walled churchyard on a terraced hill on the northern edge of the village. The church has a simple nave and a polygonal chancel in the southeast. The massive church tower is located north of the chancel, in the south there is a sacristy.
The present church dates back to 1506. At that time Dittingen still belonged to the parish of Laufen. However, there are documents that prove a precursor already in 1423, archaeological findings even point to the 12th century. About 1536, Dittingen had temporarily and obviously not totally voluntarily joined the Reformation, but returned to Catholicism around 1588. Since 1804, Dittingen is an own parish, between 1873 and 1943 together with the neighboring Blauen. Unfortunately, most of the original documents about the church were destroyed in a fire of the parsonage in the 1920s.
DE: Die Kirche St. Niklaus von Dittingen befindet sich in einem ummauerten Kirchhof auf einer terrassierten Anhöhe am Nordrand des Dorfes. Die Kirche hat ein einfaches Langhaus und einen eingezogenen polygonalen Chor im Südosten. Der massive Kirchturm befindet sich nördlich des Chors, im Süden ist eine Sakristei angebaut.
Die heutige Kirche stammt vorwiegend aus dem Jahr 1506. Damals gehörte Dittingen noch zur Pfarrei Laufen. Allerdings gibt es Dokumente, die einen Vorläufer bereits 1423 belegen, archäologische Funde deuten sogar ins 12. Jahrhundert. Um 1536 hatte Dittingen sich vorübergehend und offenbar nicht ganz freiwillig der Reformation angeschlossen, kehrte aber um 1588 wieder zum Katholizismus zurück. Seit 1804 ist Dittingen eine Pfarrei, zwischen 1873 und 1943 zusammen mit dem benachbarten Blauen. Leider wurden die meisten Originaldokumente über die Kirche bei einem Brand des Pfarrhauses in den 1920er Jahren zerstört.
