As you stand with your gaze cast upwards at the massive structure in front of you questions might come to mind. Here are two questions, and answers, that deal with this water tower.
How tall is this? The overall height is 110 ft.
How much water does it hold? One million gallons; yup, 1,000,000 gallons or 20,000 baths, 2 Olympic sized swimming pools or the weight equivalent of 556 adult African elephants.
The tower serves all of Detroit Lakes through their water distribution system. The tower is fed from the town’s Water Treatment Plant, located 3 blocks south on Rossman Ave. The primary purpose for the water tower is to provide pressure and storage in case of water emergencies.
