In North Kingstown, at the former town hall, is this monument displaying a Civil War soldier.
The monument is located along Boston Neck Road, about a quarter mile southeast of a bridge. The statue is on the northeast side of the road, in front of the brick building.
The monument is made of metal, probably iron, painted a light blue. The base is also metal. It stands about 8 ft tall. The figure is of a Civil War soldier in Union uniform. One foot is advanced. His hands are holding a rifle, upright. The following text is found on the monument: (On self base, right:) J. W. Fiske/2 Barclay St/New York (On base in raised letters:) PRESENTED/TO THE TOWN OF/NORTH KINGSTOWN/BY/CHARLES C. BAKER/POST NO. 16/DEPARTMENT OF/RHODE ISLAND/GRAND ARMY/OF THE REPUBLIC/1912/WM. G. According to an article, the monument was the second Civil War monument in town. It was first situated at a railroad depot until the depot was demolished. The monument was moved to its present location.
