Heading north along the A1088 towards our holiday accommodation in Norfolk we needed a meal just as we were approaching Norton and we were very pleased to have made this our stop. There was an instantly friendly greeting, dogs allowed, and the bar food was excellent, of good quality but slightly in the upper-price range for a country pub.
The earliest Trade Directory, White's of 1844, list one William Smith, malster and victualler as owner. The pub, however, is much older than this. It's a Grade II listed C16th public house with early C17th and later alterations and is now in the Greene King group of Bury St.Edmunds.
The pub sign is a painted representation of an English Setter, the sign is two-sided and swings in a frame mounted on a square post just off the main road at the edge of the car park.
Date of first pub on site: C16th
