This building was constructed in 1922 by philanthropist Colonel George Fabyan as part of this Riverbank Acoustics Laboratory. It is said that Colonel Fabyan had a hobby of buying excess or unused freight and through this hobby he acquired several hundred 15-foot I-beams. Not wanting the I-beams to go to waste he designed this building to make use of them. The five-story building was designed by stacking cigarette boxes against the wall of his office. The back of the building is flat while the other sides step up to a 15' x 15' fifth floor.
