This large and new station (still not 100% complete) came into service in 2016. Essentially any destination east and north from Kunming City (the capital of Yunnan Province) departs from here. There are lots of high speed trains to whisk you away to any major city in China (and plans for a high speed rail line south as far as Singapore).
The station is large and impressive. It consists of three levels. The lowest is for station entry. Here lots of buses, cars, and a subways drop off lots of people. Second level, for ticket purchase. Third level, train departure.
The station is about 20kms south of the city centre, but there are buses and a subway linking the two.
Be advised, little English spoken or on signs. Use an app or have your destination written onto paper. Also, standard 'airport' level security, bags and your person scanned.
