This site has been used for industrial purposes dating back to 1812, when Mr Richardson began making scythes. The business was taken over by Mr. Taft who operated the same business until 1843. In 1854 Warren Cotton Mills was established, co-owned by Bliss and Fabyan. Four separate mills were built on this site dating from 1866 to 1912. While the dam did exist and may have been used to power one of the earlier dams, the mills were primarily powered with steam.
