"Objekt: Stehender
Standort: Sandgasse
Stadtteil: Innenstadt
Künstler: Croissant, Michael
Material: Eisenguss
Entstehung: 1975
Aufstellung: 1980

"Object: Standing
Location: Sandgasse
Neighborhood: city center
Artist: Croissant, Michael
Material: cast iron
Origin: 1975
Position: 1980
The "standing" of the Städelschul professor Michael Croissant looks uncertain. Only vaguely can the human features of the "standing" be discerned, and yet he leaves behind impression, speaks something in us.
Thus, subtle contrasts between rigidity and movement make him so effective.
He rises like a block in front of us. Its abstracted forms convey a high degree of anonymity, the silhouette is reminiscent of Egyptian sarcophagi. This impression continues in the surface design, reminiscent of mummies.
And yet the "standing" is alive.
Under the cast-iron "packaging" it seems to be a rain. Slightly turned out of the axis, the head breaks out of the symmetry and the shoulders refuse to it as well. The surface is restless and is subject to unevenness.
Its human proportions also make the "standing" interesting in other respects. Placed in a pedestrian zone, he resists the hustle and bustle of the city, dips among the people, attracts attention, perhaps even stands in the way.
