The Boxelöfter is a person who pulled the legs of their trousers when it was required o walk in the River Rhine. This was usually done by the men who pulled the ship up the river Rhine when they had to left the bank of the river to cross it to get to an island in the river. The term Boxelöfter became common to name a person which lives in the town Spay. In later times when a Carneval Club was founded they named themselves by this term. To remember on that foundation a bell was placed at the bank the river Rhine. It is fully functional and a plaque and explains its history.
