EN: The chapel in the village center of Birgisch is a long-drawn building, almost two stories high with a small roof turret in the back half. It is dedicated to John the Baptist and originally belonged to a small hermitage owned by the Order of St. John.
It was first mentioned in 1379, rebuilt in 1687 and 1905. The interior contains some valuable items, some of them date back to the 14th century.
The chapel today belongs to the parish of Naters. Apparently, it is no longer used regularly, but can be rented for religious celebrations, such as weddings.
DE: Die Kapelle im Dorfzentrum von Birgisch ist ein ein langgezogenes Gebäude, knapp zwei Stockwerke hoch mit einem kleinen Dachreiter in der hinteren Hälfte. Sie ist Johannes dem Täufer geweiht und gehörte ursprünglich zu einer kleinen Einsiedelei im Besitz des Johanniterordens.
Sie wurde 1379 erstmals erwähnt, 1687 und 1905 umgebaut. Die Inneneinrichtung enthält wertvolle Gegenstände, die z.T. noch aus dem 14. Jahrhundert stammen.
Die Kapelle gehört heute der Pfarrei Naters. Offenbar wird sie nicht mehr regelmässig benutzt, kann aber für religiöse Feiern, wie z.B. Hochzeiten, gemietet werden.
