The stately Greek Revival First Baptist Church in downtown Eufala AL serves the faithful in this picturesque town.
A state historic marker in front of the church reads as follows:
"Irwinton Baptist Church was constituted on June 24, 1837. The name of the town changed to Eufaula in 1843 and consequently the name of the church became Eufaula First Baptist Church. The church assumed its third name in 1869 when it was changed to First Baptist Church of Eufaula. The church met temporarily in the male academy at the NW corner of Union and Livingston Streets. In 1841 a new church building was erected at the NW corner of Union and Forsyth Streets. The second church was built at this location and was dedicated on Nov. 5, 1871. The building was destroyed by fire caused by lightning on Aug. 12, 1907 and rebuilt using the same exterior walls without the steeple."

"About First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church of Eufaula was founded in 1837. From its beginning, this church has stood on the authority of the Bible as God’s Word. Based on the Bible, we believe salvation from sin is through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Being committed to Jesus binds us together as a family of faith. We reach out to love people because of God’s love for us as we want to bear one another’s burdens. We would be grateful to have you join us as we continue to seek God’s guidance in being the church He wants us to be.
Dr. Ken Bush
