Lake Modewarre is a natural depression lake. It was formed when the nearby Mt Moriac was an active volcano many 1,000's of years ago.

The lake level varies from season to season but has been quite low for a number of years.
It's surface area is approx 414 hectares and a maz depth of 4.27m.
The lake supports trout, salmon carp, tench and eels.
There is a boat ramp and public facilities.
It was popular many years ago for water skiing.
However now mainly for recreational fishing.
