Oakwood Cemetery is located on Highway 56 south of Wewoka. This is an active cemetery, with 3128 burials at this date. The cemetery is now about twice the size it was in 1936 when the WPA built its surrounding wall. Today, the wall encloses the north half of the cemetery, with the south wall now bisecting the cemetery. At the entrance, the 3 ft. high rock wall, curves up slightly to a height of 4 ft. Along the wall, about every 25 feet, a rock pillar slightly higher than the wall, gives added support.
Directly east from the entrance, past the brick memorial tower, to the far east boundary is a rock maintenance building, constructed by the WPA, and currently housing a veterans memorial. This is a one-story native sand stone building. On the west facade are two single metal/glazed doors, one with two narrow sidelights, plus two 9-pane fixed windows. The rear wall has two similar windows, and the north wall has one. The roof is gabled with composition shingles.
Inside the building local VFW and Boy Scout troops have set up a veterans memorial with plaques and framed Armed Forces seals. The building is in good condition and can be viewed from inside and out.
