The cannonball monument in Hamburg is the rudiment of a memorial building to the Hamburg French time, specifically the French siege and the battles for the city in May 1813. Like other marble monuments in Germany, it was created from cannonballs stuck in walls, shot down by the troops of Napoleon , A sandstone cube measuring 132 × 133 × 133 centimeters has been preserved with three small and one large ball placed as an architectural fragment in the ornamental garden in the Wallanlagen on the north side of the Hamburg Museum.
The monument was designed by Johann Hinrich Martin Brekelbaum, was funded with private donations and was revealed on Neustädter Neuenweg, the later St.-Annen-Platz on the Wandrahm on May 19, 1878. It was a tower-like structure above a multi-level pedestal, surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. Incorporated and piled were 65 bullets which had been preserved after the bombardment of the Great Grasbrook by the Napoleonic troops.
