A roadside 'T' marker located just off Old Highway 99 on the way to Interstate-5 and notes a historic wagon toll road that passed through here.

This historical marker is part of a series of historical markers located all around Klamath and Jackson Counties and commissioned by both the Klamath County Historical Society and the Southern Oregon Historical Society.

The marker text reads:

SISKIYOU MOUNTAIN WAGON ROAD

This toll road was constructed in 1858-1860 by the Thomas brothers. It was owned and operated by Lindsey Applegate, 1860-1869, and later by James Thornton and Jesse Dollarhide. It was replaced by the Pacific Highway in 1915. S.O.H.S. - 1979

Directions: Take Highway 66 from Ashland toward Klamath Falls and turn right onto Old Highway 99 (now Jackson County 273). Marker #1 is located ¼ mile past (south) of the historic Colonel Barron ranch house on the left side of the road as you travel toward the Siskiyou summit. The ranch house is now owned by Jon Dauenhauer.

Marker is hard to see from the road and depending on the time of year, could be partly covered by tall grass. This marker also reads exactly the same as another 'T' marker located south of this marker.
