This respectful redo of the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Plaza includes an expansive Multi-War Memorial consisting of 3 panels of gray granite and, across a wide sidewalk, a veterans wall with specific names of veterans engraved in individual plaques of black granite.
On the Nacogdoches County Veterans Memorial Wall, we found a specific plaque that honors and recognizes a WWII POW as follows:
"CLARENCE L. MATLOCK
U.S. Army Cpl
1941-1946 WWII POW"
The waymarked plaque is located on the easternmost section of the memorial wall, at the very top corner of the eastern end, 7 blocks down from the top corner plaque for MSGT Dan Singletary, and three blocks west from the plaque for SSG Clarence M Self.
The memorial honors those men and women of Nacogdoches County who served their country in time of war, be it the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America, or United States of America.
