We had always heard that when Gavrilo Princip fired his pistol at Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which set off WWI, Princip's bullet was "the shot heard 'round the world."

Imagine our surprise when we went to the Institute of Texan Cultures exhibit, and learned it was ANOTHER act - which can also be described by a 4-letter word - that was heard round the world:

"JULY 28

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia

[photo of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Duchess Sophie of Hohenberg]

Archduke Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. Their June 28, 1914 assignation in Sarajevo touched off World War I."

Oh, did they have to specify "touched off"?

TMI.
Type of sign or poster: Misspelled

Name the misspelled word: assignation (should be assassination)
