The village pound is located opposite the Church of St Edward the Confessor, and next to the school. There is a stone plaque located on the small stone wall that surrounds the area that was the pound.
The stone plaque, dated 1952 E II R 1977, tells us that this walled area was part of the village green during the Middle Ages and was used for the impounding of stray animals.

The inscription on the plaque reads as follows;
'1952 E II R 1977
THE VILLAGE POUND
THIS POUND WAS PART OF THE VILLAGE GREEN.
DURING THE MIDDLE AGES IT WAS USED FOR
THE IMPOUNDING OF STRAY ANIMALS.
THE KEEPER IS APPOINTED BY THE PARISH
COUNCIL AND THE POUND IS NOW CARED
FOR BY THE CHILDREN OF THE SCHOOL.

Minutes from the Cheddleton Parish Council meeting on 17th May 2016. (Appointment of Committees item n.) show that Mr. S. Beardmore was the Cheddleton Pound and War Memorial Keeper. (visit link)

The area is now a peaceful location to sit with benches and gardens with shrubs and flowers.
